Progress and developing trends of unconventional oil and gas geological research
ABSTRACT
“The progress in pore structure characterization, hydrocarbon occurrence state, mechanism of oil and gas accumulation, main controlling factors and high production model of unconventional oil and gas is reviewed”. Future challenges in unconventional oil and gas geological research and engineering are also discussed.

3D characterization of sandstone by means of X-ray computed tomography
ABSTRACT
Porosity and permeability are related properties that are necessary to make a productive oil or gas well. Most oil and gas is produced from sandstones, which often have high porosity and permeability. This study presents the benefits of 3D analysis in looking at quantitative and qualitative aspects of structures as opposed to conventional 2D microstructure analysis of rock samples.

Multi-scale method of Nano (Micro)-CT study on microscopic pore structure of tight sandstone of Yanchang Formation, Ordos Basin
ABSTRACT
“Microscopic reservoir pore texture refers to the shape, size and distribution of pores and throats and their interconnectivity in reservoir rocks, which strongly influence [their] petro-physical properties.” While there are many indirect approaches to reflect the pore-throat texture in reservoir rocks, this research presents the advantages of pore-throat texture characterization of tight sandstone reservoirs obtained with micro-CT.

The application of X-Ray Computed Microtomography for estimation of petrophysical parameters of reservoir rocks
ABSTRACT
Three-dimensional visualization of rocks and minerals with micro-CT technology enables non-destructive quantitative measurements of the internal structures and provides accurate measurements of the spatial pore systems. This article discusses acquiring detailed information about porosity and permeability. “It is possible to measure the length and number of channels pore, tracing their connections, visualization and quantitative assessment of their tortuosity and permeability, observing the penetration of water or oil in the rock, analyzing the degree of filling the pores of the rock different media and imaging and analysis of the wettability process.”
