SkyScan 1272 CMOS Edition

The SkyScan 1272 micro-CT with a newly developed 16-megapixel CMOS detector is perfect for both multi-use facilities and specialized applications.  The optional sample carousel extends the automated scanning feature to multiple samples, without user interaction, freeing you up to perform other work. The state-of-the-art 16 megapixel sCMOS X-ray detector provides high-contrast images and superior resolution, with up to 11,200 x 11,200 native pixels. The advancement in imaging detector allows for scan times that are twice as quick.

The SkyScan 1272 is instrumental in generating the detail and resolution needed to advance your groundbreaking research. The adaptive geometry feature ensures that the system scans with the fastest speed possible for each resolution setting. The instrument offers automatic selection of parameters with Genius mode. Magnification, energy, filter, exposure time, and background corrections can all be optimized automatically with a single click.

Features

HIGH RESOLUTION LARGE FORMAT DETECTOR

The new large format sCMOS detector of the SkyScan 1272 allows more volume of your sample to be imaged at a given pixel size, while advancements in detector design allow for faster scans. This means you can see more of your sample at a high resolution in a single scan and in a quicker time.

ADAPTIVE WORKING DISTANCES

In the SkyScan 1272, the X-ray detector automatically adjusts its distance to the X-ray source to either a NEAR, MID, or FAR position depending on the magnification selected. While some scans may require the detector to have a larger working distance for either high magnification or a larger field of view, a majority can be done in the NEAR position which gives a 5X increase in the signal decreasing the scan time dramatically, allowing you to scan more samples, more quickly.

MULTI-SEGMENT SCANS

OFFSET Mode scanning is the ability to horizontally shift the detector into a either a RIGHT-LEFT (2X) or a RIGHT-CENTER-LEFT (3X), therefore widening the field of view and the total pixel array, without having to have a large working distance that would reduce signal.   This allows you to see more of your sample without sacrificing resolution or signal.

AUTOMATED SAMPLE CHANGER

The optional automatic sample changer can handle up to 16 samples with different sizes. The samples will be automatically loaded in the scanner and scanned one-by-one without the presence of an operator. Scanned samples are clearly indicated by illuminated marks and can be removed or replaced any time, even during live scanning. The samples can be scanned using identical or individually selected protocols. The scanning results can be distributed with different names to incrementally indexed subfolders.

IN SITU STAGES

Each system comes pre-wired to accept specially designed in situ stages for dynamic testing. The Materials Testing Stage (MTS) allows for in situ compression or tension testing of materials. Heating and Cooling Stages are ideal for material characterization for thermal effects.

SOFTWARE

The SkyScan 3D Software Suite is supplied as an unlimited site license so each user can have a copy; ensuring workflow from multiple groups is easily managed. Segmented software programs means post acquisition reconstruction, analysis, and modeling can be done on different computers, freeing the system for scanning. Image file outputs are standardized to TIF, BMP, or JPG formats for easy viewing, transferring, or copying.
