Our experience. For over 30 years, Micro Photonics has provided instruments, training, support, and laboratory services to research scientists, providing expertise that can be depended upon. As a full-service instrumentation sales, training, and support company, we work collaboratively with our customers to simplify the acquisition and use of high-end systems and their applications. We are experts on the research instruments we distribute, acting as an extension of your team and laboratory when you need it.

    George Ferrio

    CEO/CFO

    Prior to founding Micro Photonics in 1992, George had extensive experience in international and domestic high technology-related sales and marketing. At the Advanced Products Department of Air Products and Chemicals George developed sales experience with laboratory cryogenic sample cooling systems and cryogenic vacuum pumps. He later worked for Microscience, Inc., an import distributor of instruments used for materials characterization, semiconductor processing, and physical science applications as well as a manufacturer of custom thin-film deposition systems. At Microscience, George held positions of regional sales engineer, product manager, and import sales manager.

    George has his bachelor’s degree in finance and management and his master’s degree from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA.

    Benjamin Ache

    Product Manager Bruker Micro-CTs

    Ben’s role at Micro Photonics is to help advance the research of leading scientists throughout the U.S. with his knowledge of the science of micro-CT and experience with the technologies that power our products. He specializes in X-ray micro-computed tomography instrumentation across a broad range of fields, including materials science, bioengineering, orthopedics, medical devices, geology, and the life sciences. Ben supports a team of highly skilled engineers and administrative staff to ensure an excellent customer experience. 

    Benjamin earned his bachelor’s degree in materials science from Lehigh University and his master’s in financial valuation from Baruch College.

    Ian Spradlin

    Product Manager & Service Coordinator

     Working across the spectrum of sales, applications, and service, Ian is committed to advancing science and research instrumentation. Ian brought seven years of experience in design, manufacture, and service of vacuum deposition systems and X-ray diffraction equipment to Micro Photonics when he came in 2007. He is uniquely suited to bring together partnerships among Micro Photonics, researchers, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Ian is passionate about supporting customers with their research and learning better ways to continually serve their research needs.

    Ian earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

    Brandon Klingensmith

    Service Manager

    Brandon spends most of his time working on-site with our customers to make sure that their micro-CT instruments are well maintained and producing beautiful and accurate images. As a service engineer, Brandon not only supports the systems, but he also likes to assist the users in fine-tuning their techniques in order to achieve better data using less resources. Formerly a petroleum geologist and technical professional, he is the first scientist to describe oil and gas production from connected nano-pores and hydraulically-induced fractures in shale using images produced from his lab’s SkyScan 1272. Brandon enjoys traveling to customer sites, is fearless in the surf lineup and wicked with a deck of cards, so make sure you ask.

    Brandon earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his master’s degree from Ohio University, both degrees in geology.

    Ann Bagnell

    Marketing & Content Development

    Ann works with our engineering team to create relevant, informative, and engaging content that tells our story and demonstrates the many ways in which our instrumentation and services support the scientific research community. Ann was the creative director  in a marketing communications firm and a senior vice president of marketing for a major healthcare organization. She was the founding partner in a publishing company that specialized in content development, providing digital resources to libraries and major reference publishers. Ann enjoys working with the Micro Photonics’ team to facilitate their sharing of experience, ideas, and methods with researchers around the country.

    Ann has a bachelor’s degree in Art History from the University of Buffalo and a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Albany.

    Timothy Sledz

    President & COO

    “Helping researchers change the world” is a Micro Photonics’ mantra that evolved from Tim’s view of the critical research our customers are doing and what an impact it can make. Tim began at Micro Photonics as a lab manager, working with customer samples as well as providing customer support, where his dedication to customers began. Tim strongly believes that through a strong partnership with Micro Photonics’ customers we can advance science together.  

    Tim earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Santa Clara University with an emphasis in Biology, which allows him to bridge both the materials and biological aspects of instrumentation.

    Raj Manoharan

    Senior Applications Engineer

    Raj specializes in training support for all X-ray products distributed by Micro Photonics with custom scientific goal-oriented courses. Hands-on training is conducted on-site or virtually for the spectra of Bruker micro-CT systems and Medikors InAlyzer DEXA imaging equipment across the fields of biology, orthopedics, pharmaceuticals, life science, and materials science. His love for continued learning across all fields of science makes him a valued asset to those in the scientific community by helping them achieve their research goals.

    Raj has a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University, with specialization in medical imaging.

    Seth Hogg

    Laboratory Manager

    Seth manages and operates our Micro-CT Evaluation and Testing Laboratory for evaluation as well as paid testing services. He is a key contact for customers seeking support with micro-CT instruments and software in their own labs. Seth earned his doctorate degree in chemistry with a focus on polymer coatings for membranes; his master’s degree focused on forensic chemistry and the use of electron microscopy to study gunshot residue. Seth worked for several years in food and beverage packaging for PepsiCo at their Frito Lay facility. Seth is passionate about working with customers to help explore the benefits of micro-CT for their research.

    Seth earned his master’s and doctorate degrees in chemistry from Michigan State University.

    Sumita Chandiramani

    Office Manager

    Sumita has been with the company since 2011, where she provides internal support to our engineers, coordinates overseas and domestic shipping, and handles a myriad of customer questions. Sumita is the one that makes sure the office runs smoothly and nothing falls between the cracks. She enjoys working with new and existing customers as well as with the Micro Photonics’ team.

    Sumita completed her bachelor’s degree at Millersville University, majoring in business with an emphasis in marketing.
