Micro-CT for Dental Research
SKYSCAN X-ray computed tomographs are leading the advance in nondestructive imaging solutions for dental research. SkyScan Micro-CTs meet the 3D high-resolution and versatility required for any demanding research laboratory.
- Superior contrast between enamel and dentin.
- Data manipulation tools for assess Pre- vs. Post-procedures.
- Visualization caries and demineralization zones.
- Quantitative analysis of root canals, periodontic ligaments, and bone-implant integration.
Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH)
One of the most common applications for micro-CT in the dentistry is perform a molar incisor hypomineralization model (MIH). The combined high contrast with superior feature detection of the Bruker systems opens up opportunities to visualize small deviations in mineralization in the enamel, measure mineral density defects, model crown volume, and assess caries.
Metal-bone contact surface
Through the use of the latest detection architecture, the SKYSCAN tomographs can deliver high quality images of metal and bone or ceramic implants with minimized artifacts, allowing analysis of osteointegration or quantifying scaffold porosity
Endontics / Peridontics
Innovation does not stop at the instrument level; application developments are driven by the global community of dental researchers. A new contrast agent MicroAngioFil developed in partnership with SkyScan user Ruslan Hlushchuk, Bern University, allows visualize of the vasculature of the periodontal ligaments.
Dental tubules
The SkyScan 2214 system offer unprecedented levels of resolution which is unlocking new areas of study in the dental field. It is now possible to see below the micron level and detect such features as dentin tubules, which are not visible with the micron-level resolution of most laboratory CT scanners.
