Tribotouch Advantages and Innovative Features

Tribotouch — Innovative Features

The TRIBOTOUCH tests surfaces according to IEC 60068-2-70: “Abrasion of markings and lettering caused by rubbing of fingers and hands”. It is a newly developed instrument using state-of-the-art technology to guarantee high reproducibility and therefore eliminate the limitations of prior generations of test machines.

Movement of the artificial finger

The Tribotouch uses a “true” high dynamic linear motor with precise motion control for the movement of the piston (artificial finger) to accurately reproduce the real life abrasion caused by the human hand. This ensures full speed and motion control and guarantees absolute reproducibility of the tests over a lifetime. Competitor instruments on the market use pneumatic cylinders and no motion control, which results in poor reproducibility.

Set-up of the test

The Tribotouch uses accurate X/Y/Z linear tables for the positioning of the test samples. The point of contact is clearly indicated by a laser beam. The mounting of the probe can be configured with either a vice (standard), universal mounting plate (optional), or customized fixtures.

User interface

The intuitively-designed menu navigation based on pictographs makes it easy to use even without consulting the user manual.

Design

The design of TRIBOTOUCH combines ease of use, functionality, and appealing visual appearance. The solid one-piece base plate allows easy transportation and solid standing when in position. The hinged front offers free access to the weights and the drive unit. The TRIBOTOUCH requires only a standard wall outlet as power supply (no expensive compressed air).

Mounting Plate

The mounting plate, including clamping claws and spacer screws, allows clamping options with different geometries. The mounting plate is screwed onto the X/Y/Z linear stages instead of the vice.

Express Inspection slide/Sample changer

The Tribotouch provides fast inspection without removing the specimen. The carriage with mounting plate includes clamping claws and an attachment for the vice. The express inspection carriage is screwed directly onto the X/Y/Z linear stages.

Developer Menu

In order to reproduce some human activities and motion sequences, it is necessary to adjust speeds and test sequences. The developer menu allows free adjustment of the speed, distance, and pause parameters.

Nail-Scratch and Shoe Sole Test (Automotive)

The nail-scratch test simulates scratching by the fingernails (automotive). A PMMA disc is pulled over the surface at a speed of 200 mm/s.

The shoe sole test simulates scratching by shoe soles (automotive). A leather disc is pulled over the surface at a speed of 700 mm/s or 1500 mm/s.

Fingernail scratch test

The fingernail scratch test simulates the impact of a fingernail on the surface. The test can be performed as a scratch test (see picture) or as a crease test (turned 45°).
In combination with the developer menu, the parameters can be simulated with real conditions.

Cleaning sponge test

The sponge test simulates cleaning with a kitchen sponge. The test can be performed with the cleaning sponge or with the abrasive side.

Soiling behavior

This test shows the soiling behavior of surfaces. In the same test the cleaning behavior can also be tested. A defined soiling textile is used to test the soiling behavior.

Additional weights

The load (degree of sharpness) of the test object is adjusted with weights. The scope of delivery includes 1N, 5N, and 10N. The additional weights are available individually or as a set up to 30N.
