Scientific Instrument Field Service Engineer opening for Micro-CT Systems

Are you looking to help advance research while applying your problem solving and service coordination skills? Micro Photonics is looking for an experienced service coordinator / field service engineer to lead our team of experts in providing technical support and maintenance for micro-CT laboratory systems across the US. You will be helping our customers advance their research by coordinating the service effort with our vendors and internal team while providing direct support as well. Micro-CT systems are advanced X-ray imaging devices that allow researchers to visualize the internal structure of objects in 3D, with applications in fields such as biology, materials science, geology, and more.

As a field service engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Installing, calibrating, and servicing micro-CT systems at various customer sites all over the United States, ensuring optimal performance and functionality.
  • Performing regular inspections and preventative maintenance on micro-CT systems, following safety procedures and protocols.
  • Providing technical support and training to customers on how to use and operate the micro-CT systems, ensuring customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving any technical issues or malfunctions that may arise with the equipment or software, using your problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Scheduling service visits with customers and other service engineers, managing your time and resources efficiently.
  • Documenting and reporting your service activities, including any repairs, upgrades, or feedback from customers.
  • Receive inbound repair calls from new and existing customers and process orders accordingly
  • Monitor and process all service jobs that are Awaiting Parts and keep customers informed
  • Monitor incoming email and emergency Service Request orders
  • Staying updated on the latest developments and innovations in micro-CT technology and applications.
  • Coordinating the vital support effort with our international vendors, our internal support team, and our customers.
  • Ensure all parts for the orders are available and staged for jobs before dispatching
  • Schedule and dispatch all maintenance and repair orders
  • Clearly communicate with the technicians their jobs for the day and any specifics regarding them
  • Maintain communication with technicians throughout day, update orders, add to calendar, etc
  • Creating systems to streamline support.
  • Staying updated on the latest developments and innovations in micro-CT technology and applications.

You must be able to:

  • Travel extensively all across the United States at client sites. You will be spending more than 50% of your time working at client sites completing preventative maintenance visits, service visit, repair visit etc.
  • Overnight stays are required.
  • Travel by air.
  • Work at client site.
  • Work in an office/home office and/or remote setting.

* All travel expenses will be reimbursed.

To be successful as a service coordinator, you will need:

  • At least 3 years of experience in a field service supervisor / engineering role, preferably with micro-CT or similar X-ray imaging systems.
  • Experience leading a team of support staff.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field, such as electrical, mechanical, biomedical, or computer engineering.
  • Excellent technical skills and knowledge of micro-CT systems and components, including hardware, software, and network connectivity.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A valid driver’s license and the willingness to travel extensively across the US, sometimes on short notice.
  • A passion for learning and a growth mindset.

Salary range $80-120k depending on experience.
