Micro-CT for Bone Research
BRUKER SKYSCAN Micro-CTs are the market leaders for imaging and analyzing bone and calcified tissue. With the SkyScan micro-CTs, image quality no longer has to be compromised for fast results.
- Scan speeds as short as 3-minutes for mouse femurs
- Simple reorientation, data cropping, and landmarking tools
- Advanced yet easy quantitative analysis of cortical and trabecular bone in accordance with ASBMR parameter outputs (BV, TV, Tb.th, ..), including bone mineral density (BMD), tissue mineral density (TMD), and outputs in Hounsfield Units (HU)
Bone preclinical disease models
The flexibility of the SkyScan micro-CTs, guided by Micro Photonics’ helpful expertise, allows you to design a wide array of experiments from osteo-arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, bone tumor metastasis, myeloma, osteolysis (loss of bone), periosteal reaction (“roughage”, or new pathological structures), FOP, Pagets, to other gene disorders and more.
Bone fracture callus healing model
Sophisticated imaging process tools within the SkyScan 3D software suite allow for reorientation of the dataset, precise and consistent volume-of-interest from the fracture, and quantitative assessment of new bone formation through the use of robust segmentation protocols.
Osteocyte lacunar morphometry bone strain transduction
Never before has the advancement in bone research had such extraordinary resolution, opening up the possibility for submicron imaging and analysis of osteocyte lacunar and blood vessel canal porosity; osteocyte lacunar morphology, osteocyte lacunar separation; vascular network, orientation and anisotropy; as well as determining biomechanical responses.
Cartilage analysis
Through the use of contrast agents to enhance the visibility of specific tissues (example, phosphotungstic acid – PTA or Lugol’s iodine), along with SkyScan Micro-CTs highly sensitive detectors, cartilage can be resolved in 3D. This broad range of applications makes the Bruker micro-CT products a perfect choice for core facilities allowing numerous users to benefit from a single system.
